I presented to our elementary school about inclusion Practices for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC students and families. I created a slideshow and a paper with "starting strategies and resources" for teachers. My teaching partner and I created a presentation and shared with our elementary school staff on "what does it mean to empower students?" and shared strategies from John Spencer's "Empower" book. We shared examples and strategies to increase student choice, student self-assessment and self-feedback. I am organizing a group of teachers from the elementary school to participate in an 11-part "Science of Reading" course and reading "Shifting the Balance" as we are ALL teachers of reading. We will be doing this together once a week after school starting in November.
I trained with my sister and brother-in-law (who are both teachers) and my current teaching partner and we all completed the 2023 September Berlin Marathon. It was super, especially as a new world record was set for the women!
The ES Science Department taught students how to make the dyes, fold the shirts and dye them for grades 2,3,4,5,6 (600 students total!) and the 5th graders taught the 2nd graders while the 6th graders taught the 3rd graders. Lots of parent volunteers were involved! We now have "Tie-Dye Tuesday" every Tuesday where we celebrate our differences and bringing more color into our world!
I organized 11 field trips in Sept. and Oct. - 10 individual classes to the Freie University's Chemistry Labs and one all 5th grade trip (125 students) to the Natural History Museum for small guided tours.
I am part of the weekly schedule team. At the Kennedy School teachers substitute for each other. I am part of the team that creates that daily plan before school so that there are teachers for grades Early Childhood to 6th grade (we have 5 homerooms for each grade).
